Custom Built-in & Freestanding Designs

Luxury Custom Aquariums

Designed Around Your Space

A custom aquarium should never feel like an afterthought.

It should look as though it was always meant to be part of the room.

At Holland Custom Aquariums, every installation is designed specifically for the space, whether it's a striking freestanding display or an aquarium seamlessly built into cabinetry or architectural features. We take the time to understand how you use the space, the style of your home or business, and the type of aquatic environment you want to create before designing a system that complements both.

From the initial concept through to installation, every detail is carefully considered to ensure the finished aquarium is as practical as it is beautiful.

A Complete Turnkey Service

Creating a custom aquarium involves much more than selecting the glass tank.

We manage every stage of the project, including system design, structural planning, custom cabinetry, filtration, lighting, aquascaping, plumbing, and equipment selection. Every component is chosen to work together as a complete ecosystem, providing a healthy environment for aquatic life while remaining easy to maintain and enjoyable to own.

By coordinating every element from the beginning, we ensure the finished installation performs as beautifully as it looks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What warranty comes with a Holland Custom Aquarium?

Our warranty coverage depends on the type of aquarium purchased and whether Holland Custom Aquariums completes the installation.

Aquarium Only: Aquariums purchased on their own include a 1-year warranty against leakage.

Aquarium & Stand Combination: When an aquarium and stand are purchased together, the system includes a 3-year warranty against leakage and breakage.

Aquarium, Stand & Professional Installation:
When Holland Custom Aquariums completes the installation, warranty coverage is extended to 5 years against leakage and breakage.

Warranty coverage applies to qualifying structural issues under normal use. Damage resulting from improper installation, moving or relocating the aquarium, modifications, impact, misuse, improper support, or work performed by others is not covered. Full warranty terms will be provided with your project documentation.

Do you provide custom aquarium services throughout British Columbia?

Yes. Holland Custom Aquariums works with clients throughout British Columbia.

For projects outside our immediate service area, travel, transportation, accommodation, additional labour, and other project-related expenses will be discussed and agreed upon before work begins.

Because every project is different, we encourage you to submit your project details through our inquiry form. We can then determine what will be required and whether the project is a good fit for our team.

How large of an aquarium can you build?

We specialize in custom aquariums, so there isn't a single maximum size. The practical limitations depend on the aquarium dimensions, access to the property, available workspace, structural requirements, glass weight, and the number of people required to safely complete the installation.

Larger aquariums may be constructed on-site when transporting a completed aquarium into the space isn't practical.

When does an aquarium need to be built on-site?

An on-site build may be recommended for exceptionally large aquariums or installations where doorways, hallways, stairs, elevators, or other access limitations make it difficult or impossible to bring the completed aquarium into its final location.

For example, an aquarium measuring approximately 84" L × 30" W × 30" H requires a working area of roughly 14' × 10' for safe on-site construction.

Every project is assessed individually before we determine the best construction and installation approach.

What is required for an on-site aquarium build?

Large on-site builds require some additional planning before construction begins.

The work area must be heated, clean, and adequately ventilated. Glass must also be brought into the space and allowed to acclimate to the environment for approximately 24 hours before assembly.

The installation location must be capable of safely supporting the finished aquarium. For large installations, we may require a qualified structural engineer to assess and approve the location before construction begins.

Adequate working space and labour must also be available to safely handle and position the glass.

Do I need a structural engineer for my aquarium?

Not every aquarium requires an engineer. However, larger custom aquariums can carry a substantial amount of weight once filled with water, rock, substrate, cabinetry, and equipment.

For larger installations, particularly built-in systems or aquariums being installed on upper floors, we may require structural approval before proceeding. This helps ensure the proposed location can safely support the completed system.

Can you build an aquarium that won't fit through my doors?

Yes. This is one of the reasons we offer on-site aquarium construction.

If the finished aquarium cannot safely be transported through the available access points, we can assess whether constructing the aquarium directly in its final location is appropriate.

How do you determine whether my project can be built and installed?

We look at the complete project rather than just the aquarium dimensions. This includes the proposed size, location, floor structure, access to the property, available construction space, cabinetry, filtration requirements, plumbing, electrical requirements, and long-term serviceability.

For more complex projects, a site visit may be required before the final design and quote can be completed.

Can you work with my builder, designer or contractor?

Yes. Custom aquariums often need to integrate with cabinetry, millwork, walls, electrical systems, plumbing, and the surrounding architecture.

For built-in and larger installations, we can coordinate with the professionals involved in your project to help ensure the aquarium and its supporting systems are properly considered during the planning and construction process.

I have an unusual aquarium idea. Can you build it?

Possibly, and those are often the projects we most enjoy discussing.

Our custom aquarium service isn't limited to standard sizes or configurations. If you have a particular space, architectural feature, or aquarium concept in mind, send us your ideas, approximate dimensions, photos, plans, or inspiration through our Project Inquiry Form.

We'll review the information and discuss what is realistically possible for your space.
